AMAYOUR SURF presents TAMAZIRT BY AMAYOUR,

a dedicated yoga retreat centre in the rolling hills near coastal Taghazout where few tourists roam.

TAMAZIRT BY AMAYOUR is a place to practice yoga and meditate, but also to unwind on the rooftop terrace while watching life in the local Amazigh village of Agouni unfold, to laze by the pool during warm afternoons, to indulge in locally sourced menus, and gaze at the stars as night falls.

The retreats

Our New Moon Yoga Retreats are designed to provide working professionals with a yoga break long enough to unwind, but short enough to still have some annual leave left over upon return. Arrive on Saturday and head back on Thursday, or add a day or two on and stay at our beachside hostel Amayour Surf. Because we believe that yoga should be accessible to all, we have designed a programme to fit all budgets while maintaining the little luxuries of modern travel – share a dorm room or opt for a private room, enjoy our day trip to explore the local culture, or treat yourself to a therapeutic treatment.

The house

Spread over three floors and with capacity for up to 15 guests, TAMAZIRT BY AMAYOUR is where owners Shiraz Ksaiba and M’hand Naciri mix Amazigh knowledge and a London eye for style to create a yoga retreat centre tucked away in the hills near Taghazout, Morocco. Daily meals are shared on the rooftop terrace where guests enjoy uninterrupted views of the sunset and enjoy the sound of the muezzin gently calling the prayer from the nearby mosque. One en-suite double room is located on the main floor of the house. The majority of the guests sleep on the main level where we also have our indoor sitting area, a perfect spot for unwinding with a cup of tea for a bit of journaling and reflection or chatting with friends new and old. Just steps away, our heated pool with lounge chairs and parasols provide the perfect spot for a mid-day dip or poolside lounging with a good read under the warm African sun. While we do encourage a digital detox, Wi-Fi is available throughout the house.

The rooms

With one double rooms with en-suite bathroom, (soon to be two), two double room with shared bathroom, one triple room with shared bathroom, and a dorm-style space for up to six guests complete with storage space our accommodation options accommodate yogis of all budgets and travel styles. Regardless of your choice, sunlight floods the room as you wake up ready to toast the sunrise while the silence is unparalleled when it’s time to tuck in to bed each night. Two bathrooms are located on the main floor and one on the rooftop terrace. The rooms are equipped with fine linens, bath towels and toiletries.

The yoga studio

Guests at TAMAZIRT BY AMAYOUR start the day with a yoga practice on the top terrace with panoramic views over the rolling countryside and end with an evening restorative class while enjoying the silence that reigns over the village. A pergola protects yogis from the elements while the fresh air and gentle breezes are refreshing and rejuvenating. Yogamatters mats, bolsters, eye pillows and blocks are provided.

The food

Fresh from the fishing boats, the rural markets and even the garden, fresh and wild modern Moroccan meals at TAMAZIRT BY AMAYOUR are prepared using only the finest seasonal ingredients. Chefs reside on-site during our retreats and are carefully selected to ensure menus are of the highest quality. Meals are served communal style and we can accommodate vegan and gluten-free diets. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and tea station with fresh fruit are provided throughout the retreat.

The village

Whilst the Taghazout Bay area is undergoing huge renovations and building works, the Amazigh village of Agouni remains a hidden gem. Located just 50 minutes from Agadir airport with direct flights to a growing list of European destinations, TAMAZIRT BY AMAYOUR provides a mix of regional cuisine, mindful walks through the surrounding hills and daytrips to nearby destinations as constant reminders of the exotic setting.

Just outside this hillside retreat, shepherds graze their herds, the muezzin calls the prayer from the tiny mosque nearby five times a day, and silence (and blue skies) are almost guaranteed. From our doorstep, guests can set off on guided hikes through the countryside where life seems to stand still and the kindness and generosity of the local people is second to none. We should also mention that Tamazirt means mountain/ countryside in the local dialect. Just don’t expect rugged mountain peaks, but rather gentle rolling hills dotted with argan and olive  trees for a bit of shade along the way.
