Where to Stay for a Surf Trip in Morocco: Taghazout or Tamraght?

Planning a surf trip to Morocco and not sure whether to stay in Taghazout or Tamraght? You’re not the only one.

Both villages sit on the same dreamy stretch of coastline, just a short drive apart, with easy access to some of Morocco’s best surf spots. Both have sunshine, waves, mint tea, rooftops, and that slow surf-trip feeling we all come here for.

But the vibe is different.

At Amayour, we have surf camps in both Taghazout and Tamraght, so we get asked this all the time: which one should I choose?

The honest answer? It depends what kind of trip you’re looking for.

Tagazhout, Morocco

Choose Taghazout Surf Camp if you want to be in the heart of it all

Taghazout is the classic Moroccan surf town. It’s buzzy, social, colourful, and full of people passing through with surfboards under their arms and tourists there for days of sun and to searching for Moroccan pottery and rugs to take home.

Our Taghazout surf camp is right in the middle of the town, close to the ocean, cafes, restaurants, and surf shops. It’s the kind of place where you can wander out after dinner, find a juice (or beer), grab a coffee, browse a surf shop, or end up chatting to people you only met that morning.

If you like having things going on around you, Taghazout is probably your match.

It’s a little more touristy, a little busier, and has more of that classic surf-town energy. There are more places to eat, more people around, more nightlife, and more of that “let’s see where the evening goes” feeling.

Taghazout is great if you want:

  • cafes, restaurants and surf shops on your doorstep

  • a busy village feel

  • cocktails at sunset

  • nightlife and social energy

  • to be right in the middle of the action

  • an easy place to explore after surf

  • that classic Taghazout surf camp experience

It’s the one for travellers who want surf in the morning, a busy cafe in the afternoon, dinner with the group, and a drink after if the night feels right.

The View, Tamraght

Choose Tamraght Surf Camp if you want community, vibes and a more local feel

Tamraght is just up the coast, but it has its own kind of energy. It’s creative, local, and a little more tucked into everyday life on the coast.

Our Tamraght surf camp is based at The View, our villa-style space with ocean views, beautiful shared areas, rooftop yoga, and meals that bring everyone together. It has that close-knit Amayour feeling from the moment you arrive - the kind of place where you know everyone’s name by day two.

Tamraght is perfect if you want your surf trip to feel social, connected and rooted in the local area.

The village has some of our favourite hip cafes, street art, independent spots, and a growing creative community. It’s less about being in the busiest part of the surf scene and more about being part of a smaller town rhythm - coffee after surf, rooftop dinners, sunset chats, an occasional cocktail and rooftop dance, and little local corners you find along the way.

Think morning surf, a post-session cafe stop, yoga with in a designated shala, dinner around the table, and evenings that feel like you’re staying with friends rather than just passing through.

Surfing at Tamraght beach

Tamraght is great if you want:

  • a tight-knit community feel

  • beautiful villa-style accommodation at The View

  • rooftop yoga and ocean-view meals

  • local cafes and creative spots

  • street art and neighbourhood energy

  • a more connected, local experience

It’s the one for travellers who still want social energy, events, good food and surf, but with more of a home-away-from-home feeling.

What stays the same at both Amayour surf camps?

The good news is that you don’t need to stress too much.

Whether you choose Taghazout or Tamraght, you’re still part of Amayour. That means the same warm welcome, the same surf team, the same family feel, and access to the same coastline.

Both camps are built around the things we care about most: good surf, good food, good people, and making you feel at home whether you arrive solo, with a friend, or as part of a bigger trip.

At both locations, you can expect:

  • surf coaching for all levels

  • beautiful nearby surf spots

  • group meals

  • yoga options

  • a social, welcoming atmosphere

  • help choosing the right surf conditions each day

  • nourishing and delicious food

  • people you’ll probably miss when you leave

The biggest difference is not the waves. It’s the kind of base you want to come home to after surfing.
